Post-Merger Integration Checklist

Mergers and acquisitions always involve organizing many moving parts, from the very beginning of a transaction through to the very end. Once a transaction is closed and two or more companies are merging, the number of moving parts increases even further: more stakeholders, more employees, and different policies and procedures. In order to successfully combine these moving parts and maximize synergies, post-merger integration (PMI) is required.

PMI ensures that the merger will return on the intended value from the initial transaction. It’s a long process, and the earlier it’s started, the better.

While post-merger integrations can differ depending on the companies involved and the circumstances around the merger or acquisition, we’ve found there are many consistent elements across PMIs.
